Hand Carved Female Head.
I don't have much information on this wood carving, other than it came from an estate sale in Northern Pa. The gentleman was known for his many travels during his life time.
The face is very smooth. It has a crack down the side of her face. I'm assuming from the wood drying, but it also looks like it's supposed to be there. Almost like the girl has a story to tell.
Beautiful wood grain throughout
Her hairline is carved deep into her face. It almost looks like it's removable, but it isn't. The back of her head has a big spot that is lighter than the rest of her hair. I'm not sure if it's part of the wood he used or if it lightened for other reasons....Pictured
The bottom is covered with a fabric, maybe muslin, but I'm not positive. It has some staining on it...Pictured.
Weight; Approx. 8 pounds
Measurements; Approx. 11 1/2" High
I'm not sure of the age of this wood carving
I don't see an artist signature anywhere. It could be on the bottom, but I didn't want to remove the fabric.
